WHEN SHOULD HYALURONIC ACID BE USED TO TREAT KNEE OSTEOARTHRITIS?

Intra-articular injection of hyaluronic acid (HA) is a modern treatment option that helps relieve pain, stiffness, and limited mobility in patients with knee osteoarthritis. However, not everyone is an immediate candidate for this therapy.

Doctors typically recommend HA injection when:

  • The disease has progressed to a moderate or moderately severe stage, but joint replacement surgery is not yet required.
  • The patient has already used pain relievers or anti-inflammatory drugs but with limited or unsatisfactory results.
  • The patient is not eligible or not ready for knee replacement surgery.

Treatment regimen with Alsavin One (2%):

  • Concentration: 20 mg/ml (2%) → 48 mg of HA in 2.4 ml solution
  • Molecular weight: 3 million Dalton
  • Viscosity: 900,000 mPa·s
  • Course: 1 injection every 12 months

Before the injection, the doctor will:

  • Aspirate joint fluid if effusion is present.
  • Ensure strict aseptic conditions throughout the procedure.

Patients often experience significant pain relief, smoother joint movement, and a noticeable improvement in mobility and quality of life shortly after treatment.
