DO YOU REALLY UNDERSTAND KNEE OSTEOARTHRITIS?

DO YOU REALLY UNDERSTAND KNEE OSTEOARTHRITIS?

Osteoarthritis is a condition in which the articular cartilage and the underlying bone are damaged, accompanied by inflammation and a reduction in joint fluid. Normally, cartilage is smooth and intact, and the subchondral bone has a stable structure.

What happens when a joint degenerates?

  • Cartilage becomes worn down → rough and gradually thinner.

  • In more severe cases, the underlying bone may become exposed.

  • The subchondral bone changes in structure, becomes sclerotic, and experiences reduced mineral density and strength.

  • Inflammatory reactions occur → causing pain, swelling, and stiffness.

Why does the joint hurt?

Joints allow the body to move flexibly every day thanks to smooth cartilage and synovial fluid, which reduces friction between the two bone ends.

However, over time:

  • Cartilage gradually thins

  • Joint fluid decreases

  • Small cracks appear in the subchondral bone

In severe cases, the cartilage can no longer fully cover the bone ends. During movement, the bones rub directly against each other, even wearing each other down — this is the main cause of the intense pain many people experience.

Osteoarthritis is not simply “pain due to aging” — it is a clear biological degenerative process that needs proper understanding and timely intervention. Don’t wait until your joints hurt to start caring for them. Be proactive in protecting your joints today.

In cases of significant pain due to osteoarthritis, Alsavin – a product containing HA (Hyaluronic Acid) may help lubricate the joint and provide rapid pain relief, sometimes even after just one injection, as prescribed by a doctor.
