The holiday is a great time to travel, explore new places, and watch parades… but prolonged standing, excessive walking, or long hours sitting in a car can put additional stress on your musculoskeletal system. To make your trip more comfortable, don’t forget to:
- Avoid standing for too long: After about 45–60 minutes, change positions and gently stretch. Choose comfortable footwear with soft soles.
- Change positions regularly: When traveling by car for a long time, every 30–45 minutes, try rotating your shoulders and neck, stretching your legs, or getting up and moving around when there is a stop.
- Avoid excessive walking: If your itinerary involves a lot of walking, maintain a comfortable pace, take breaks between activities, and limit stair climbing or carrying heavy loads, especially if you are older or have joint problems.
- Maintain a balanced diet: Get adequate calcium, vitamin D, protein, and omega-3 from appropriate foods, and drink enough water to support bone and joint health.
Enjoy the holiday to the fullest, but don’t forget to listen to your body! Taking proactive care of your bones and joints can help you enjoy your vacation more comfortably and to the fullest.
